I’m a punk.
At least that’s what the streets would call me.
Cus I ain’t fighting NObody for NObody.
I don’t have the time.
Now, that is not to say that I wouldn’t defend myself.
I’m just saying I wouldn’t know if I’m supposed to throw a jab or an uppercut? What do they even look like?
Am I’m to pick up a weapon? What if somebody dies?
It’s just too much going on. I wouldn’t be able to focus.
And then BOOM!
This would be me to my aggressor:
Look, I know you are mad right now but can we talk about this? The cops are going to take us to jail if we continue. And I got a son. You got kids? How many? Come on, you don’t want to do this. I know you don’t want to mess them nails up, girl. They cost too much. Where you be going to get them done? See, I knew we could be friends!
And I’m walking the fuck off.
At least that’s what I imagine my fight would be like.
By now, I’m sure I’ve lost all my hood points, if I ever had any.
Well, pin me a tail and call me a donkey! Cus I could give a rat’s ass.
You know why?
Because I’ve learned that violence is not the way to solve conflict.
No matter what they push on them reality TV shows.
Think about it, after you fight you still gone have the same issue you did before you fought.
But now somebody mad cus they lost the fight.
It’s sorta senseless, in my opinion.
Tip: Protect yourself by all means though. Don’t be nobody’s rag doll.
But why is it that we can’t keep our hands to ourselves?
A physical fight usually starts by one person putting their hands on another, right?
So at that very moment of the initial contact, why couldn’t that have been words instead of physical harm?
Who taught us this? 👀
Whatever is learned can also be unlearned.
Sometimes we can just be so angry on the inside cus we hold on to so much baggage.
For reasons like this, some people just fight all the damn time.
They are not even always physical fights.
We might fight in our homes. With our spouses and children.
We might fight at work. With our coworkers or customers.
Hell, I bet we even fight with ourselves.
I heard those be the worst ones.
Just because you witnessed abuse when you were younger doesn’t mean that you have to perpetuate that cycle.
And just because the streets made you tough, doesn’t mean you have to continue fighting to earn your respect.
Don’t let these things hold you back from being the best you.
Use your words.
Resolve those issues!
Even if you are just talking to yourself.
It doesn’t make you weak. It makes you human.
Take the time to communicate what is going on inside of you. And listen to the words that are said to you by others.
And then try to find a solution.
Can you imagine how much more peaceful life would be if conflict were handled like this at all times, in all situations?
What not to do: Don’t listen to me and get your ass whooped.
I just be thinking of shit.
